Description

l1GHT Bloom coffee cup

Shaped by a small imperfection we chose to keep.

L1GHT Bloom wasn’t part of the original plan. While refining the L1GHT cup in Dehua, we went through multiple rounds of molds and prototypes. Some came out slightly different — not perfectly matching the original design. One of them was smaller. The proportions shifted just a little. The curve felt softer. More contained. It wasn’t what we planned — but it felt right. Over time, we found ourselves reaching for it more and more. For espresso. For small pours. For quiet moments. So instead of correcting it, we kept it. We called it Bloom — like a form just before it fully opens.

Pure Blanc de Chine Porcelain: Handcrafted in Dehua, Fujian, by master artisans who’ve perfected their craft over centuries.
Soft Matte Shell: An eggshell-smooth, tactile finish that feels like a gentle hug in your hand.
The slimmest section, polished for the perfect fingertip rest.

Q1: What clay do you use for the LIGHT cups?

We source pure white kaolin directly from Dehua, Fujian—renowned for its exceptional purity and plasticity. This local clay gives LIGHT its signature jade-white hue and delicate, semi-translucent quality.

Q2: How is the cup shaped and refined?

We begin with hand drawings, move into modern CAD modeling, and produce 3D-printed prototypes to fine-tune the form. Once the design is locked, we use precision molds to cast each cup in Dehua clay. After the bisque stage, skilled hands carve and polish the narrow “neck” just below the rim—our ergonomic fingertip rest—ensuring every piece feels perfectly balanced in your hand.

Q3: What happens after shaping?

Cups undergo a first, low-temperature “bisque” firing at 600–800 °C. This stage removes moisture, organic materials, and strengthens the clay, making it ready for the final finishing steps.

Q4: How do you achieve the matte “eggshell” finish?

After bisque firing, each cup is hand-polished with ultra-fine abrasives—often leather or very fine sand. This second manual pass smooths the surface perfectly and creates that soft, tactile “jade” feel.

Q5: What is “素烧” firing, and why is it special?

“素烧” (su-shao) means “un-glazed firing.” We fire cups a second time at 1 300–1 360 °C without any glaze. At this heat, the porcelain itself vitrifies—becoming glass-like, dense, and beautifully semi-translucent—producing the ice-jade glow that defines LIGHT.

Q6: How do you cool and inspect the cups?

We cool the kiln slowly to prevent stress cracks. Each cup is then hand-inspected for flawless translucence, a pure matte finish, and exact dimensions. Only those meeting our strict standards earn the LIGHT name.

Q7: Why is this process unique?

  1. Local Clay: Only Dehua kaolin delivers the pure jade-white tone.

  2. Two Hand-Polish Steps: Carving the ergonomic neck-curve and post-bisque polishing guarantee a buttery smooth touch.

  3. Single High-Heat “素烧” Stage: No glaze preserves the clay’s natural beauty and lets light become part of the cup.
