Nonprofit Organization

What is NPO?

A non-profit organization (NPO) is one which is not driven by profit but by dedication to a given cause that is the target of all income beyond what it takes to run the organization.

We are dedicated to spreading the mission of helping talented baristas most in need. When the whole world is focusing coffee farms and farmers, it seems the other important group of people of the coffee industry – baristas, are forgotten. The reason why we exist is to help talented baristas (independent baristas, home baristas, and coffeeholic) with ambitious dream of becoming the best barista and will compete on Internaitonal coffee championships and events.

We understand how difficult it is to ask sponsorship from major brands, which is why we are here to help. Any baristas in financial need can apply to our sponsorship.

Can I trust Not A Barista?

The answer is Yes.

Not a Barista is an nonprofit organization, and our mission is – Help Talented Barists Most in Need.  We build public trust based solely on the promise to do good in the world with our our profit, helping baristas most in need.

How much profit will you spend on helping baristas?

The short answer is As Much As Possible.

Running an NPO is very similar to running a normal for-profit company, which means there will be unavoidable fundamental expenses, such as administration cost, operating cost, etc. A quick example, building our brand and website requires profesisonal help, and the cost can vary greatly from an online freelancer to a professional design firm, lucky we found Kensolid, a branding firm who was willing to help us For Free as long as we keep our promise. Still, hosting, domain, and other necessary costs are unavoidable. In order to develop our NPO and help more baristas in the long term, the money spend on helping baristas is

$ for barista = revenue – expenses

If you are interested in running how much it takes to run our NPO currently, please don’t hesitate to send an email to us info@notabarista.org.

Shipping / Packaging / Fulfillment

Does Not a Barista ship internationally?

We offer international shipping across the world!

If we don’t offer live shipping rates (carrier-calculated rates) on your site, and instead charge flat rates, an order is sent out with the most affordable carrier available at that time.

For international orders, it’s most likely going to be shipped out by economy (5-10 days) or no rush (10-20 business days) method.

If your packages do get lost in transit and the shipping address was 100% correct, we’ve got your back! We’ll ship out a new order with tracking, at our expense.

How are your products packaged for shipment?

Because of the variety of products we fulfill, we package each item based on dimension requirements to ensure protection during shipment. Generally, posters are shipped in kraft tube boxes with plastic end caps. Canvases are usually shipped in corrugated boxes, ranging in dimensions of 12x18x2 to 28x38x6. Frames are first wrapped in tissue paper to protect them from scratches and are then wrapped in a layer of adhesive bubble wrap. Finally, they are wrapped in a thicker, more durable bubble wrap that will add extra protection during shipment.

Where can Europe location orders ship to?

Multiple factors affect whether an order can be fulfilled and shipped from our Europe location. Those include product type availability, stock availability, and shipping address.

If something arrives damaged, send a photo of the damaged goods to info@notabarista.org, or contact us on Instagram, then we’ll gladly send a replacement at no cost to you.

Which shipping methods have tracking?

Overnight, express, and standard shipping methods will always have tracking.

Tracking may not be available for:

  • international shipments going out from our US locations with no rush, economy, or flat rate shipping methods
  • international shipments going out from our Europe location with no rush, economy, or flat rate shipping methods

You can also make sure that your orders always ship out with tracking.

Head over to your store’s shipping settings. There you’ll see a checkbox “Use only services with tracking”. If you mark this checkbox, we’ll use only shipping services with tracking for your store’s orders. This applies to all of the shipping methods, except flat rate. But note that this may result in higher shipping prices offered at the checkout.

Can you help me track my order?

Our Customer Experience team are always happy to assist. We are contactable via Instagram here or you can send an email to info@notabarista.org

Please ensure you are checking all tracking details carefully. We strongly advise checking with your local post service as they will provide further updates for you.

Covid19 Updates

Be prepared for delays. Our fulfillment times will be longer than usual, and may continue to increase until things get back to normal. The entire industry is grappling with challenges and we’re seeing delays in our supply chain, including distributors and shipping carriers.

Why the shipping status stops updating, and I haven't received the products?

Our shipping methods have tracking, with the exception of some carriers in countries where the package is handed off to local carriers to complete the delivery. In these cases once a package arrives in the destination country the tracking  can stops and updates are no longer available.

In these situations, first we would have to await the last day of the estimated delivery date to pass. Then we would ask you to confirm that the address used is 100% accurate. Then we would advise that you/your customer contact the local Parcel. In some cases the package is held due to various reasons such as customs fees or may be waiting for pick up.

If after the estimated delivery dates have passed and after you have reached out to the carrier you are not able to locate your package, please reach back out to us.

What happens if a package wasn't delivered, but the tracking states that it was?

If the package was marked as delivered by the carrier, but the customer reports they have yet to receive it, We won’t cover the cost of reshipping or refunding the order.

There may be cases where the delivery was made, but the package was left in an unexpected location at the customer’s address. Customers should reach out to the carrier and inquire if any additional details were left by the delivery person. For example: “Left under the table on the back porch.”

We’re not yet able to assist with filing claims with shipping carriers but hope to do so in the future! Thanks for understanding.

Taxes and Billing

Where can I get help with understanding my VAT obligations?

We strongly suggest consulting with a tax professional to understand all of your tax obligations – both for VAT and US-based taxes.

You can also check out services like VATGlobal, FBA-hero, and SimplyVAT for VAT questions and setup help.

Do I have to charge VAT?

We are legally required to charge three different types of taxes:

  1. Sales tax on some orders going to the US
  2. VAT (value-added tax) on some orders going to the EU
  3. GST (goods and services tax) to all orders going to Australia.

*We do not charge VAT on our brewing guide, you are required to pay VAT yourself if you are in Europe.

Are any products VAT exempt?

Yes. We don’t charge VAT on kid’s, youth, and baby apparel shipped from our EU facility to the UK. That’s because these categories are VAT-exempt by UK law.
