How L1GHT Jade Is Made:
What is jade-like porcelain, and why is it special?
Jade-like porcelain is a refined form of Dehua porcelain that is fired under higher temperatures in a controlled kiln environment, allowing the material to become denser, smoother, and more translucent.
Unlike unglazed porcelain, where the surface remains matte and textured, jade-like porcelain develops a soft gloss and a silky, almost buttery smooth finish. Light doesn’t just reflect on the surface—it gently diffuses through it, creating a subtle, milky translucency similar to jade.
It’s special because it reveals a different side of the same clay. The process is more demanding and less predictable, but the result is a cup that feels warmer, smoother, and more refined in the hand—something that is not only seen, but truly felt.
How do you achieve the matte “jade” finish?
The finish isn’t created by a coating or glaze. Each L1GHT cup is made from premium Dehua porcelain and fired in a vacuum kiln at around 1,350°C in longer hours. After firing, every cup is carefully hand-polished to achieve its smooth, matte “jade-like” surface. This combination of advanced firing and traditional craftsmanship gives the porcelain its soft texture, natural translucency, and warm glow when held up to the light.
