Hello from Dehua!

By January 9, 2026No Comments3 min read

After a long flight into Fuzhou, we spent a quiet night resting, adjusting, and preparing for the next step. This afternoon, we boarded the fast train heading into the mountains of Fujian, and just a few hours later, we arrived in Dehua—a small county with a global reputation for its porcelain craft.

“This is where the L1GHT cups will be made. This is where our story for 2026 begins.”

Over the next few days, our plan is simple:
explore the town, learn from the people, visit tea houses and coffee shops, tour local museums, and of course, meet the studios and factories that will shape and fire the very first L1GHT cups. Our cameras are ready. Our hearts are open. And we want to bring you along for the journey.

Our First Story from Dehua

After setting in, we ended our first evening with a delicious Fujian-style dinner. And because we always visit coffee shops when we travel, we decided to do the same here—except in Dehua, we stepped into a tiny neighborhood tea house 小满茶馆.

We didn’t know how to order tea. How many pours? What style? What’s the right way?

The place was humble—bamboo tables and stools, shelves of local tea, simple teapots and cups made right here in Dehua. Just tea, water, and people. And honestly—that was beautiful.

Since it was our first time, the shop owner kindly sat with us and showed us everything. We tasted Fujian white tea, rock tea, and learned how each tea has its own rhythm and story. The flavor experience felt a bit like drinking Brazilian coffee for years and suddenly trying Kenyan or Ethiopian beans for the first time—a whole new world opening up.

And just when we thought the night couldn’t get better, she surprised us:

two teapots and several cups—gifts, from her heart. It was like buying a cup of coffee and the café owner hands you a free kettle for no reason. We laughed, but we also felt something deeper: hospitality, warmth, and connection.

In that moment, tea people and coffee people felt like the same community. After almost a liter of tea at 9pm, we weren’t tired anymore. We felt inspired—and welcomed. A perfect start to our journey in Dehua.

Why Visit the Origin?

For a simple product like the L1GHT cup, visiting the origin might look like “too much,” especially when compared to the complexity of making the MOMENTEM grinder. But for us, this is about much more than production.

Just like coffee, understanding the craft means going to its roots. We want to see how modern porcelain production blends with minimal design, ancient Dehua culture, and the touch of real artisans. This trip costs more than what we’ll earn from the first 100-cup pre-order.

But to us, it’s an investment—not in profit, but in people, knowledge, and the story behind every piece we create. And we believe it’s worth it.

What do you think? Let us know your thoughts—we love hearing from you. Stay tuned for more updates from Dehua. Videos, photos, and behind-the-scenes stories are coming soon.
